We're a Members' Club, the members do most of the work for the Club voluntarily, and nobody makes a profit out of the flying. This means that we can keep our costs low, which in turn means that we can keep our prices low.

These are the prices for the Club year April 2009 to March 2010.

Flying Costs for Members

The cost of flying is as follows. When you are learning to fly, there is no extra charge for the cost of instruction.

Each launch £7.50
Flying time in the Club aircraft, charged by the minute £0.25p
...which is the same as an hourly rate of £15.00
Club single-seater launches before noon £4.50
Simulated launch failure during training £3.50

We also run a Junior Membership scheme and a Junior Sponsorship Scheme which greatly reduce the cost of learning to fly.

Reciprocal Membership

If you are a member of another BGA Club, there is a nominal reciprocal membership fee of £3. However, we have an agreement with most other BGA Clubs that this fee is waived.

If you are a student and a member of any BGA affiliated club or university gliding society, you can fly with us during the university vacations. Any reciprocal membership fee is waived, so you can fly at Club rates.

If you are a pilot visiting from abroad, we have to charge visitor rates for a single flight, for insurance purposes. This flight includes 28 day membership of the Club, during which time you can fly at Club rates.

If you are visiting the area for a limited period such as three or six months, we can arrange a Temporary Membership of the Club. We've had temporary members from Germany, France, the Netherlands, South Africa, and the USA. Please email Richard Maks, the Membership Secretary for details.

Concessionary Rates

We offer a discounted rate for some categories of visitor. These are for Trial Lessons arranged on the day only, and are not available for any flying which is pre-arranged, such as Courses and Vouchers.

The categories are:

Local residents, in CV37 £35
Local juniors, aged under 18 £10
Juniors, aged under 18 £25
YHA Member, on production of valid YHA Membership card £35
